At Home Activities & Resources

As we continue to get used to the world we’re experiencing, keeping your children entertained and engaged in their education while at home is a balancing act. While some of us may be able to spend more time helping our children with their schoolwork, others are juggling working from home or still going to work. To make your life a little bit easier, we’ve rounded up some fun and educational resources to help add some fun back into your child’s education!

English:

Reading books aloud is one of the best ways for children to become confident in reading. Having your child read their favourite books aloud to you while you’re cooking dinner, as a morning activity before starting schoolwork, to relax before bed or even reading aloud to their favourite soft toy are easy ways to incorporate reading into your new daily routines.

Maths:

If you’re looking for resources written by teachers for parents, you can’t go past Hunter Education Nightingale! Their simple, easy to use educational resources across all age groups to help nurture a safe learning environment inside the classroom and your home. These books are a great way for your child to keep learning while having a break from screen-time.

Science:

Our friends over at Merlin Entertainment have launched a FREE education resource portal, Merlin’s EducationTool Box!

Whether you’re a teacher looking for fun and engaging lesson content, a parent looking for home school resources or just need some fun activities to fill 10 minutes with your children, Merlin’s Education Tool Box will provide plenty of inspiration.

The online hub is full of unique resources all inspired by the magic created at Merlin attractions covering a range of topics for various stages at school.

Educational worksheets with topics including habitats, the food web, conservation, animal life cycles, Maths with LEGO and more.

Inspirational and educational videos which celebrate the amazing work Merlin Entertainments and its attractions have facilitated in the conservation space, such as turtle and shark rescues, SEA LIFE Sydney’s ‘Miracle Ray’ Ani and much more.

Past attraction Facebook Live sessions so you can catch up on what’s been happening including croc feeds, koala cuddles and dugong story time.

A ‘Just for Fun’ section which aims to break up the day with creative activities including colouring sheets featuring WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo’s favourites and themed craft-making such as marine animal Easter egg craft.
